From an ornamental line to a sacred space Max Ackermann (1887 – 1975) grew up in Ilmenau and took part in Henry van de Velde's modelling workshops, in 1906/07. He kept a record of his experience there in his diary. Experiments around the ornamental line were later developed by him into abstract designs of space.
